Peace of mind / home paternity test
The home paternity test report will provide a clear answer to your doubts however it can not be used for legal purposes as the identity of participants has not been verified when samples are collected. Samples for the peace of mind paternity test are collected by the clients themselves as shown in our online guide on how to collect your DNA samples. Should you require your result for a legal matter please visit our legal paternity test page.
Cost of test and results
homeDNAdirect offers a complete peace-of-mind paternity test for only $359. This includes the sample collection kit, the analysis and a comprehensive report outlining the result. The test can be carried out with the samples of the alleged father and child only, although inclusion of the mother’s sample when available is recommended. Results are available within 5-7 working days from the receipt of the samples at the laboratory.
Alternative samples, including items such as hair and semen, can also be used for a more discrete paternity test or when one of the persons is not available to have his sample taken. A complete list of samples is available at our discreet sample list page.
How does a paternity test work?
A child inherits half of their DNA from the biological mother and half their DNA from the biological father. The extracted DNA profiles are compared (on a 16 genetic marker basis) to establish whether the alleged father is indeed the biological father of the child. If the tested man is the biological father, then all the 16 genetic markers will match and the tested father will be included with a guaranteed probability in excess of 99.99% (if the mother has participated in the test). The probability is normally 99.9% or higher if the mother is not included in the paternity test. If the man tested is not the biological Father of the child then the probability of paternity will be 0% – with or without the mother’s DNA sample.
